CODE COMPLIANT ?

DOES YOUR GENERATOR MAINTENANCE MEET THE CURRENT CODE?

In 2013, the Régie du bâtiment du Québec enacted the the Building Code - Safety Code (BCSC). The BCSC includes requirements to increase the safety of occupants and other individuals. Most of these requirements respond to repeated fire safety requests and are part of government efforts to improve fire prevention, especially in areas where people sleep and in seniors' residences. They also respond to coroner recommendations and seek to prevent fatal incidents.

This chapter standardizes the safety rules imposed on building owners and managers, making them easier to apply, both for regulators and citizens.

If your building is equipped with a generator that supplies emergency circuits such as fire pumps, emergency lighting, a fire alarm panel, etc., you must adhere to the current CAN/CSA-C282 maintenance standards according to article 6.5.1.1 of the BCSC.

The CAN/CSA-C282 standard targets building's emergency power supplies. This standard applies to the design, installation, operation, maintenance and testing of equipment installed to provide electrical power in buildings or facilities in case of normal power failure.
